Grandpa Reeves

The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone,
but the things you do for others remain as your legacy...

Darrell Eugene Reeves
a.k.a "Grandpa Reeves"

Early Saturday morning my grandpa passed away, death is such a hard thing to deal with, on one hand I am so excited for my grandpa to be reunited with the love of his life, yet on the other you miss them and the joy they brought to your life. I was so blessed to live next door to my grandpa for almost 10 years he was and continues to be such a great example to me. My grandpa and grandma were each others world and since she passed away 7 years ago a part of him has been missing. I know the reunion between them must have been one of the greatest reunions of all time. I loved watching them together my grandma would always give him these "winks" whenever they were together, they loved each other and treated each other with kindness at all times.
I will always treasure the memories I had with Grandpa he loved to tell jokes and I loved listening to his stories and his laugh. When I was in middle school I was able to be on a bowling league with Grandpa, Brian (my uncle), and Jessica (my cousin), it was so fun I always thought grandpa bowled a lot like Fred Flintstone, he was so patient I think he was the only one on our team who could even bowl. I will miss Grandpa dearly, but know that he is truly happy being back with Grandma and our father in heaven. I am so greatful for the legacy that he left behind and like my grandma used to write in her letters to him I'll see you in a few minutes....

I love and will miss you grandpa!!!

  1. You used my favorite quote at the top. It was actually a quote from one of my conference talks a few months back. Thanks for the reminder of me LOVING it so much. I loved reading what you had to say it was so sweet. I loved the "wink" thing, it makes me wonder what our kids will pick up on, or how we should be more loving!

  4. Hey, i have loved looking at your blog! it is so fun to stay caught up with people. I love the date idea, I remember doing that with mom and dad and grandma and grandpa. The only date I can really remember is the date with grandma and grandpa, they took me to the movie store and let me pick a movie, it was an old movie called ginger or something. and they let me get a treat. It was a lot of fun. Your kids will have a lot of fun memories with that. i remember looking forward to it each month! As for Grandpa wow what an amazing person! I too can just picture the reunion that Grandma and Grandpa had, what an amazing couple to look up to. I remember them always stealing little kisses. I kind of left you a story but it is so fun to remember things! I can't wait to see your baby, I hope everything goes well!!
